THE DRAWING ROOM aims to provide a platform for dialogue and critical debate through a programme of 'In Conversations', talks and seminars that interpret and extend the exhibitions. These involve the participation of exhibiting artists and other art professionals. Induction loops can be made available upon request and in advance of our in-conversation events. In Conversation / Education FORTHCOMING Tom Morton 'In Conversation' with Brian Dillon. Brian Dillon is a writer and critic and UK editor of Cabinet magazine. His writing has appeared in The London Review of Books, The New Statesman, Modern Painters, frieze, Art Review and The Wire. His first book, ‘In the Dark Room’, won the Irish Book Awards non-fiction prize, 2006. His latest book is ‘Tormented Hope: Nine Hypochondriac Lives’ (2009). Event is free but booking is essential. She is presently operating as a freelance curator based in Berlin.)
Ciprian Muresan, Angus Cameron, Anja Kirschner, Melanie Gilligan, Olivia Plender, Pablo Bronstein, Kim Einarsson, The Drawing Room 2008 There Is No Alternative?: Drawing Pad project with artist Albert Potrony and Hackney Community College October 2008 Student from Hackney Community College and artist Albert Potrony Artist Albert Potrony led a Drawing Pad project with Hackney Community College Art Foundation students. The students engaged with the TINA exhibition and addressed issues of rules within society and our current economic climate. Using the exhibition as a starting point each student responded to the work in the show and questioned rules through the use of drawing, audio, video and animation. Albert Potrony is a visual artist who works in a variety of media including drawing, sculpture, installation and video. In his work he explores the notions of time, place , perception and the translation of our experiences. In his projects participation from diverse groups of people have been key elements. He uses workshops to engage with groups to investigate ideas around play and decision making. Drawing Pad project with artist James Brooks and Hackney Community College Students from Hackney Community College Artist James Brooks led a Drawing Pad project with Hackney Community College Art Foundation students. Artist James Brooks curated a group exhibition in response to Hayley Tompkins practice. Students visited the exhibition and were introduced to the work of Hayley Tompkins as a springboard for the production of new work. The students then installed the works at The Drawing Room and received advise and criticism from the Directors.
